Salem, Massachusetts Juvenile Law Attorney
Focused on Your Needs ◊ Committed to Protecting Your Rights
If you are a minor or the parent or guardian of a minor who needs legal representation, whether the minor faces a juvenile delinquency charge or needs advocacy in a DYS/DSS custody proceeding, you want a lawyer experienced in handling juvenile matters. These issues may effect the minor for years to come. You want a lawyer who will look at all the factors involved and help you identify and implement solutions that protect the juvenile's short-term and long-term interests.
Attorney William Jacob Megowen, Esq. has protected the rights of juveniles since 2001. We understand that, in juvenile matters, it is often important to look at the big picture and go beyond just legal representation. We take a personal interest in the well-being of juvenile defendants, striving to avoid unjust adjudications and excessive penalties which can have a devastating effect on a young life. We place a priority on personal service, devoting our full attention to protecting your rights. We take the time to learn and understand the unique circumstances of the juvenile's case, so that we can identify and implement the best solutions. Representation in Juvenile Matters
We focus our juvenile practice on the defense of juvenile delinquency charges, including situations where a minor is charged with an offense that would be a crime for an adult and could be sentenced to DYS (Department of Youth Services) custody. In all matters our goal will be to avoid having the juvenile placed in DYS custody.
Because there is great discretion in sentencing for juveniles, we aggressively advocate at sentencing and probation hearing phases of juvenile delinquency proceedings. We know from experience that these are critical stages of the process. In most cases, we can prevent DYS commitment without having to go to trial.
We also represent minors who face school suspension or other educational matters. See our page on educational advocacy for more information.
